Must read

The 42.19-kilometer route for the Dubai Marathon in 2024 is set to commence on Umm Suqeim Road near Madinat Jumeirah.

Dubai’s Road Transport Authority (RTA) has announced road closures in anticipation of the 23rd Dubai Marathon, scheduled to occur in Jumeirah on Sunday. The marathon’s route, starting on Sunday, January 7, will be in effect from 6 am to 1 pm.

The RTA has advised the public to check the Dubai Marathon 2024 route and plan their journeys accordingly. Early departure is recommended to ensure timely arrival at intended destinations. The information was shared by the RTA on platform X

Starting point

The 42.195-kilometer marathon route is set to commence on Umm Suqeim Road near the Madinat Jumeirah. Runners will turn left onto the left-hand side of the carriageway, proceeding up Al Sufouh. The route includes passing by Dubai College Junction, the entrance to Palm Island on the opposite side of the road, and continuing past the entrance to Dubai Media City on the left. The route involves a U-turn at The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi traffic lights.

After the U-turn, runners will head back along Al Sufouh, passing by Madinat Jumeirah and continuing onto Jumeirah Beach Road. The route runs past iconic landmarks such as the Burj Al Arab and the Jumeirah Beach Hotel on the left. This marathon route offers a scenic and challenging course for participants, showcasing key attractions in the city.

The runners will continue along Jumeirah Beach Road, consistently on the left carriageway, progressing towards the bridge at the Creek. Before reaching the bridge at the Al Mehemal Road junction, there will be a U-turn. Subsequently, the route heads back to the Madinat Jumeirah junction, repeating this specific loop section.

After completing the second lap of the Jumeirah Beach Road section, runners will make a left turn after the Burj Al Arab at the Madinat Jumeirah junction. They will then run along Umm Suqeim Road for 500 meters, heading towards the finish line located before the Dubai Police Academy. This final stretch of the marathon offers participants a concluding challenge before reaching the endpoint.

The upcoming Dubai Marathon, scheduled to take place in an area considered the “home” of the event by many Dubai-based runners, will mark the first time since January 2020 that this specific location has hosted the marathon. Tens of thousands of runners in Dubai are familiar with this area, and its inclusion in the marathon route adds a special significance to the event.

In addition to the elite field participating in the marathon, the event will feature the wheelchair marathon, the 10km Road Race, and the 4km Fun Run. Notably, these races will traverse a route that hasn’t seen mass participation running on this scale for four years. This return to the area is likely to evoke a sense of excitement and nostalgia for both participants and the local running community.
